Suga®Fax D10NC Gets OSPAR OCNS Gold Band (lowest hazard)

Colonial Chemical is pleased to announce a recent regulatory update for one of its leading products. The Offshore Chemical Notification Scheme (OCNS) team has reviewed information about Suga®Fax D10NC for use as a lubricant, foaming agent, stabilizing agent, corrosion inhibitor and/or dispersant during offshore drilling operations involving 100% environmental discharge and in accordance with the Harmonised Offshore Chemical Notification Format (HOCNF). Suga®Fax D10NC received a Hazard Quotient between 0 and 1, also known as the OSPAR OCNS Gold Band (lowest hazard).

OSPAR is the mechanism by which 15 Governments and the EU cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. To reduce the overall impact of offshore chemicals on the marine environment, OSPAR has adopted a harmonized mandatory control system (HMCS) for use and reduction of discharges of offshore chemicals by the offshore oil and gas industry. This system promotes the shift towards the use of less hazardous or preferably non-hazardous substances. The OCNS Team at Cefas registers chemicals used in offshore oil and gas applications for use in the UK and Netherlands waters.

Colonial Chemical Receives COSMOS Approval for Multiple Ingredients

Colonial Chemical, Inc. announces that ten ingredients in its portfolio are now COSMOS approved. This includes the recent addition of Suga®Citrate L1C-C, the latest innovation in APG-based surfactant chemistry. Additionally, Cola®Det OKC-40, a chemically processed ago-ingredient using organic feedstocks, is now COSMOS Certified. The COSMOS approvals and certification allow Colonial Chemical’s natural cosmetics ingredients to be recognized globally for their use of sustainable feedstocks and processes. This approval was granted following Colonial Chemical’s completion of rigorous documentation audit processes for its ingredients by Ecocert Greenlife according to the COSMOS v3 Standard.

Speaking of the development, Dennis Abbeduto, Personal Care Business Manager, Colonial Chemical, stated, “…The increased demand for green chemistry and sustainable products indicates that consumers are aware of the importance of clean labels. Customers are seeking assurance that the products contain genuine natural ingredients used in personal care formulations. COSMOS is an international non-profit organization and is responsible for setting standards for organic and/or natural ingredients used in the cosmetic industry. The standards are developed by BDIH (Germany), COSMEBIO and ECOCERT (France), ICEA (Italy) and the SOIL ASSOCIATION (UK) at European and international levels.

Suga®Det LSDG – High Foaming Surfactant Combination for Sulfate-Free Products

Colonial announces the release of Suga®Det LSDG, a liquid, easy to use blend of a mild, high foam sulfosuccinate and a mild, high foam alkylpolyglucoside. The sulfosuccinate portion is normally supplied as a semisolid paste so this blend is especially useful for formulators incorporating this potentially tricky to dispense product or those interested in reducing the carbon footprint of their manufacturing by designing cold-mix formulations. It is derived from sustainable plant materials and has a very high bio-renewable carbon content. The combination is optimized to generate copious amounts of foam with dense bubble structure for an extremely luxurious feel.

Colonial Chemical’s excellent alternative to formulating vehicle care products without AEEA

Cola®Dry CR-502 EU is an advanced ceramic sealant concentrate developed for the car wash and vehicle care industry. This sealant combines state-of-the-art silicone polymers technology for shine and protection and a bonding technology that maximizes the retention of the polymers for high efficiency, low cost, and enhanced durability. ColaDry CR-502 EU will help in the formulation of new “ceramic”† finish products by replacing wax additives in current formulas or by simply diluting or injecting it through a spray bar. It can also be used in a finishing polish in a detailing shop.

The strong protection from the sealant will help to prevent damage caused by acid rain, UV radiation, tree sap, bird droppings, and other surface debris. ColaDry CR-502 EU will prevent dirt and grime from adhering to the car surface and improve overall cleaning time. Multi-Metal Corrosion Protection including Yellow Metals and Aluminum | Cola®Cor KAT

Because you need corrosion protection for all kinds of metals, you sometimes need a multi-purpose solution that’ll manage many tasks at once. Good thing there’s a handy tool around: Cola®Cor KAT.

Cola®Cor KAT is a blend of phosphate esters neutralized with alkali metal hydroxide. It is water soluble. ColaCor KAT is a corrosion inhibitor effective in alkaline environments for ferrous, non-ferrous, and yellow metals. It is compatible with all other kinds of ferrous corrosion inhibitors.

Cola®Cor KAT is also a highly-efficient antistatic agent for synthetic fibers. Overall, it can serve as a highly-efficient antistatic agent while offering a strong anti-corrosive effect for use in spin finish products for the manufacturing of polyester, polypropylene, polyamide or acrylic staple fibers.

Colonial Chemical Is 2021 EPA Green Chemistry Challenge Award Winner

SOUTH PITTSBURG, TENN. (June 15, 2021): Colonial Chemical, Inc. is a winner in the 2021 EPA Green Chemistry Challenge Awards Program, specifically in the focus area of The Design of Greener Chemicals. Colonial Chemical is being recognized for developing Suga®Boost surfactant blends that use more environmentally friendly chemicals than traditional cleaning surfactants. Specifically, Suga®Boost surfactants consume less energy to create, are biodegradable, and are derived from plant-based materials, with performance that demonstrates potential to replace EO-containing surfactants such as SLES and APEs.

Many surfactants used in traditional cleaners are derived from petroleum-based raw materials and pose several issues including high environmental toxicity or a need for high-energy processes in their manufacture. One group of chemicals often found in cleaners is alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEs). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has identified this class of chemicals as toxic to aquatic organisms, especially because they bioaccumulate in mollusks, soils, and sediments. Additionally, APEs can mimic natural hormones and induce endocrine disruption in aquatic and land organisms.

Colonial Chemical discovered that blends of functionalized alkyl polyglucoside (APG) surfactants provide cleaning performance that is equal to or better than APEs while avoiding environmental issues related to aquatic toxicity, endocrine disruption, and carcinogenic impurities. Suga®Boost surfactants are blends of derivatized APGs prepared by attaching functional groups such as sulfonate, phosphate, quaternary ammonium, glycinate, and citrate. Suga®Boost blends do not yield toxic substances as they biodegrade. They are mild and safe for the formulator and end-user. Lastly, Suga®Boost blends require less energy to manufacture and require only water as a solvent during manufacture and cleanup.

These functionalized APG surfactants have the potential to replace EO-containing surfactants worldwide. Furthermore, Suga®Boost and its underlying chemistry has the potential to expand into wipe products, disinfecting cleaners, dish washing, carpet cleaning, and fabric care.

Cola®Carb M7C Emulsifier with Lime Soap Dispersing Properties Now Available

Cola®Carb M7C is a medium foaming ether carboxylic acid with good emulsification and dispersing properties, used for metalworking fluids, fire resistant hydraulic fluids (HFA-S) and rolling emulsions. Cola®Carb M7C is an optimal chemistry as a branched, medium alkyl chain with moderate to high degree of ethoxylation and stable over a broad pH range. It is also a robust performance product with good emulsification capability and outstanding lime soap dispersing power. Cola®Carb M7C is extremely stable against electrolyte and hard water and supports corrosion protection. Cola®Carb M7C is used in a wide range of applications, such as water-dilutable metal working fluids, rolling emulsions, fire resistant hydraulic fluids (HFA-S), oil & gas, mining fluids, and others. Suga®Boost 030 is now REACH.

Suga®Boost 030 may now be included more globally as an ingredient in formulations. Suga®Boost 030 is also registered in Canada and the US. Additionally, Suga®Boost 050 is listed REACH, along with Canada, US and Australia.

Suga®Boost performance surfactants can significantly raise the cleaning performance over traditional surfactants such as DDBSA, SLES, and NP-9, particularly in removing food soils, animal grease, and protein soil.
