Maleniated Amido Amines

Cola®Mul 1200 is a low HLB (ca. 6), high-performance emulsifier and wetting agent designed to increase emulsion stability in oil-based drilling fluids. Based on Maleniated amidoamines of natural fatty acids and polyamines in base oils, it serves as a workhorse secondary emulsifier for invert-emulsion drilling fluids. Cola®Mul 1200 demonstrates improved emulsion stability over traditional emulsifiers by reducing high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) fluid loss. It can function as an emulsifier to offer the fluid stability in the static aging at high temperature 325°F as well as a wetting agent in the high-performance oil-based drilling fluid system. Typically used in conjunction with primary emulsifiers, it ensures excellent emulsion stability, oil wetting of drill solids, and reduction of HPHT fluid loss.
Upon neutralization with alkali hydroxides or alkanolamines, Cola®Mul 1200 turns into an anionic emulsifier. In addition to its extensive applications in oil and gas, it can also be used as a primary or secondary emulsifier in soluble oil and semi-synthetic metalworking fluids.

Regulatory:

USA (TSCA), Canada (NDSL), Japan (IECSC), Korea (KECI), Taiwan (TCSI)

Benefits

  • Secondary emulsifier for oil-based drilling muds
  • Improves the emulsion thermal stability and contamination resistance of oil-based muds
  • Effective and thermally stable in a broad range of application temperature (up to 325 oF).
  • Effective at low concentrations
  • Typically used in conjunction with primary emulsifiers for optimal emulsification capability
  • Compatible with other oil-based and synthetic mud additives and systems
  • Offers corrosion protection power

Applications

  • Oil-based drilling muds
  • The typical usage is 3-6 ppb (pound per barrel). The recommended usage ratio of primary emulsifiers to ColaMul 1200 is 3:1 to 2:1, but a pilot test is required for optimal results
  • Soluble oil and semi-synthetic metalworking fluids
